What is double opt in?

Double opt-in is a subscription process for email lists where subscribers first ask to join the list, then they are sent an email asking them to confirm their choice of joining.

When the confirmation is complete, they are added to the list.  Double opt-in ensures you can't accidentally join a list, and you can't join with a misspelled email address.
